Did you know that Naples is a Blue Zones community? If Blue Zones is unfamiliar to you, let me introduce you to this year’s blog theme: Blue Zones in SWFL. I read Dan Buettner’s book Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer for the People Who Live the Longest about 5 years ago. Immediately, I was fascinated with his findings from 5 areas of the world: Ikaria, Greece; Loma Linda, California; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Okinawa, Japan.
He groups his findings into the Power 9 principles so that other communities around the world could adopt these principles as well. Naples has transformed its community to align with these 9 principles in various ways. For the year of 2020, we want to focus the blog to inform the community on how to get our kids involved in the Blue Zones activities of SWFL.
For the month of February, we are excited to select the “SWFL Veg Fest” on February 16, from 10-4:30 at Riverside Park in Bonita Springs to promote and discuss during this post. Blues Zones of SWFL will volunteer during this event, which is one way to get involved, but the event itself is a great way to introduce kids to the Blue Zones principle of plant slant eating.
Specifically – here is all the information about the event:
