“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.” – Billy Graham
We chose the quote above because we all know that being a good father today is so valuable for the next generation. What does it really mean to be a “good” father? Many could describe a good father as a man who spends time with his kids. Another interpretation could be a dad who disciplines his children in appropriate ways. We might also use the words “protector” or “provider” when thinking about good fathers. Whatever your definition is, we can all agree that we should praise those dads who are raising up the next generation in ways that will positively affect society. The more we notice and appreciate these good dads, the more likely we are to inspire others to follow.
For this Father’s Day, let’s help make dads feel extra special. You can celebrate your dad by giving him the gift of relaxation (nap time), sports or hobby related gifts, photo collages of the kids, his favorite candy and beverages, and homemade gifts. First, let dad sleep late on Sunday morning so that he can wake up relaxed. Once he gets up, surprise him with some gifts that are unique to his favorite sports or hobbies. The kids can easily contribute by making him cards with special drawings and thoughtful notes. Framed photo collages are also a sure win for dad as an awesome office or bedside decor. After a nice meal at one of his favorite pubs or a family cookout, create a cute scavenger hunt – hiding his favorite candy and bottled drinks. Spending the day showing dad that you notice his favorite things will surely help him feel extra loved and appreciated.
